ABOUT

The
Studio of
Saint Philomena

The Studio of Saint Philomena is dedicated to the creation of sacred art as a vital function of the Church’s life. Our practice is built upon the conviction that beauty is not a mere ornament but a fundamental necessity for the life of faith. For fifteen years we have served as a guardian of the ancient inheritance of the Church meeting the contemporary needs of its people by partnering with parishes schools and communities across ,New Zealand, Australia, Asia, North America, Europe and Africa.

Our work encompassing painting sculpture mosaic and gilding is technically grounded in a lineage of craftsmanship that demands permanence. We reject the ephemeral in favor of objective beauty employing traditional methods and rigorous compositional development to ensure every work possesses deep symbolism and continuity.

This commitment is reflected in our creation of national Marian images and major liturgical commissions each designed to anchor the prayer and worship of the communities they inhabit for generations.

Our guiding ethos is drawn from the Road to Emmaus where faith is recognized through encounter rather than explanation. We believe sacred art participates in this same movement allowing the Divine mystery to be revealed through what is seen and contemplated. Every project is developed within the liturgical theological and material traditions of the Church with precise attention to the architectural setting and the immutable devotional purpose of the piece.

Stewardship and Restoration

True Sacred art requires a profound understanding for the lineage that precedes us. Alongside new commissions the Studio provides specialized conservation and restoration services to protect the Church’s and institutions visual history. By honoring the original intent and liturgical place of devotional works we ensure they continue to serve as living witnesses to the faith. Whether creating anew or restoring the old we walk alongside the communities we serve to foster understanding and dialogue through the shared language of visual beauty.
